Hopefully by the end of reading this blog post, you will have been convinced that swimming is so good and will be making plans to get a swimsuit, cap and goggles and then find your nearest swimming pool.

Reason number one: full body workout

Swimming is a full body workout and you will be able to tell on your very first lap that you take. You are using your arms to push yourself and propel yourself forward. You are using your abs to keep yourself at the surface of the water and you are using the entire entirety of your legs to kick. So you are using your shoulders, your biceps, your triceps, your forearms, your hands, your glutes, your quads, your hamstrings, your calves, your feet, your abs, and even your neck because you’re keeping your head in alignment.

Reason number two: low impact

Swimming is a low impact workout. Many people end up swimming when they’ve gotten injured from running or biking or any number of other sports. Physical therapists a lot of times will recommend recommended as a recovery way to stay in shape. When you swim, you’re not pounding any kind of bones or muscle muscles into the ground and there’s no gravity that is putting pressure on anything in your body at all.

Reason number three: cardiovascular health booster

When you swim, you are using your heart and your entire body like we just talked about. Because of this, your cardiovascular health is going to be improved greatly your fitness will increase and you’re going to feel so much better because you’re going to be just overall healthier.

Reason number four: mental health

We know by now that working out is good for your health because it creates dopamine and serotonin and adrenaline. All of these things help you to feel better and more awake and just overall happier! When you exercise in any manner, you’re going to feel happier, however there is just something so soothing and refreshing about swimming and it’s not just because it’s in a cold pool. Some of those benefits do have to do with the fact that you’re in a cold pool, but don’t worry you don’t feel that it’s really that cold you warm up and you even get hot sometimes

Reason number five: recovery

When you swim, you are stretching out your muscles as well of course you’re using them too, but we’re also stretching them out so you’re just overall going to be feeling better and your body is gonna feel more limber and more flexible. Swimming in warm water or even walking in warm water has also been found to be a pain relief for people who deal with arthritis or joint pain.

Reason number six: pregnancy safe

Swimming is a really good workout for those who are pregnant because it is safe to do and not really hard on your body. When a person is pregnant, their bodies already going through a lot of changes and is under a lot of strain and stress and swimming is a really great way to exercise without increasing stress on the body

Reason number seven: affordable

This one has a caveat just because sometimes you do need a gym membership to swim at a local pool and sometimes those are not cheap. However, most of the time a lot of community centers have affordable monthly rates and some towns even offer free lapse from hours. All you need is a cabin and goggles and a one piece swimsuit. All of those items can be purchased for less than $50 total for all of them.

  • $10 cap

  • $10 goggles

Swimming is a really great way to introduce activity to children and it’s also really fun so you can wait around in the shallow end with your kids while getting a little bit of a workout and your kids can get a lot of their access energy out. Even if you don’t have kids, you might know somebody with kids and you could hang out with them and talk and catch up and exercise and play with kids all at once it’s a win-win win-win scenario.

Like we have already talked about swimming as a full body workout and it’s also a really great low impact workout. There is a built-in resistance with the water and so you’re building lean muscle mass and gaining strength without gaining too much mass without the strength if that makes sense. Some people work out and they lift a lot, but they’re not necessarily gaining strength, They’re just gaining muscle.
