What has worked to get my PCOS under control?

In order to understand what has gotten my PCOS under control it is important to understand the kind of PCOS that I struggle with. A little bit of a backstory is that I had an eating disorder in high school and was put on the pill to regulate my cycles, which did absolutely nothing because I was still considerably underweight. Fast forward to freshman year of college and I’m physically recovered and I get off of the pill. This begins a 15 pound weight gain from my already recovered weight and then oodles and oodles of acne on my face. Just absolutely everywhere plus all over my face. I didn’t even wanna leave my house. I had so many pimples. It was absolutely terrible.
What did I try first?
And at this time I went to the doctor and I got a full blood health screening and this was in college and at the regular doctor all of my labs came back normal even my TSH and all of that and it was just absolutely terrible. I felt so discouraged and somewhere in my research told me to go to a natural path so whenever I came home for summer break or spring break or something like that, I went to a natural path of my hometown and I got blood work and did a spit test and it did show that there were some estrogen dominance and increased testosterone and so I started taking a progesterone supplement and honestly, I didn’t really see it working that well so all that to say is make sure that you go to the doctor and go to a Doctor Who really knows women’s hormones and even if you get a blood panel and it shows that your hormones are normal, don’t necessarily believe that at face value because so many women have a blood work that comes back and it looks normal but it’s actually not when you give it a closer look
Why did nothing work to get my acne to clear up or my weight to drop?

Nothing I did, not the over exercising and the under-eating did anything to budge my weight or get rid of my pimples and I was washing my face and I felt like I was doing all of the right things. But I was in college and there’s so much that I had to learn and figure out on my hormone health journey, and so I became fed up after about almost a year of the weight gain and the pimples and so I was doing my own research for months, and I decided to just bite the bullet and buy supplement, and that one supplement changed my entire life
I buy mine from Amazon from Zazzees Naturals and it’s the one that I’ve been buying for seven years now and it has not failed me. They have changed the recipe slightly to have Folate instead of Vitex. Not my favorite, but still gets the job done.
The first three months that I was on this Inositol supplement, I lost 5 pounds without changing anything. My acne started to clear up and I hadn’t changed anything about what I was doing for that either. So basically after three months, I was convinced that this was the product for me and I have been taking it ever since. I can’t even slack on taking these pills because if I do, I start to break out or I don’t get my period. It’s that good.
What did I do at the very beginning to heal my hormones?
At the very beginning, I was trying several different products. I was also trying some Zinc and the pill was just huge so I didn’t continue taking it which is a good thing because recently in 2025 I was starting to take Zinc again because my acne was flaring up. I thought from the research that I had done that zinc would be helpful for me, but then I got some really bad side effects from the zinc. It made me so sleepy and fatigued because if you take too much zinc then it’s actually really bad for you so that is a testament to making sure that you speak with your healthcare provider about taking supplements.
What happened to me after taking Inosital for 6 months?
So by the end of maybe the first 6 to 9 months of taking this inositol supplement, I had lost about 10 pounds and I was sitting at about 120 pounds. That was where my body wanted to stay for the longest time.It was just healing because I was still practicing some disordered eating behaviors and over-exercising, especially from being heavier than I normally was at 130 pounds. It was really difficult to be that way because my face was swollen. My body was swollen and I just had so much more fat than I typically did.
What is the lesson from having PCOS?
But the lesson in this is that sometimes your body wants to be at a certain weight for a certain amount of time just because it doesn’t feel safe and sometimes you just have to be patient with it.
Patience is the biggest key in this! Please be patient with yourself and your body. You are both in this together.
